Why Is The Traditional Pantomime So Popular?

The Great an idea for Traditional Pantomime originated in ancient Greece, and after that rose to popularity during the reign of Augustus in ancient Rome. This name has taken from a masked dancer called Pantomimes and the comedy and tragedy content pf advanced pantomime has very clear link with the commedia dell' Generally it was at the time reign of Queen Victoria in the 19th century, the English pantomime became closely related with Christmas Tradition and also was considered a treat for children.

Now traditionally performed the great festival at Christmas for family audiences, British pantomime is now so popular form of theater with song, dance, comedy, slapstick, audience participation and mild sexual innuendo. The plots are often very loosely based on traditional children's stories.

We are very hopefully the tradition will carry on for years to come but the genre is in so danger from the advance Traditional Pantomime theater of political correctness with some theaters thinking that the men dressed as women is demeaning.

In this Panto has a number of traditions and superstitions - most of which have remained over the years:

There is plenty of audience participation with the calls of "it's behind you!" and "oh yes it is!" or "oh no it isn't!" The audience is always encouraged to "boo" the villain.

Luckily there are still plenty of regional offering theaters & dedicated artistes ready to perform two shows a day over the Christmas and New Year period. Some of the main pantos in London, UK.
